Your weekly average starts with trip one
Weekly averages update as drivers log trips — nothing here is estimated.

How a log gets created
Six short steps, and only the first two happen while you're still in the car.
Step 1
Say where you went
Tap once and talk: “Drove to Dayton, client meeting, 42 miles.” Recording starts and stops on its own.
Step 2
Check the filled-in form
Date, destination, purpose, miles and car land in the form already filled. Edit anything you like.
Step 3
Snap the gas receipt
Photograph the receipt — vendor, date, gallons and total are read for you and attached to the trip.
Step 4
Fill any blanks later
Nothing blocks a save. Missing details are flagged with suggestions from your own history — accept, edit or skip.
Step 5
Export and back it up
One tap for a CSV table or an emailed summary — and schedule weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual backups so a copy always lives outside the app.
Step 6
Review your MileWise dashboard
See miles, deduction estimates and anything still missing by week, month, quarter or year to date — all in one place.
Mileage logging questions, answered
How do I log a mileage trip by voice?
Open MileWise, tap “Log by voice” and say where you went, why, and how far. Recording starts on its own and stops when you pause. The trip form appears pre-filled with the date, destination, purpose, miles and car, and you can edit any field before saving.
What does the IRS require in a mileage log?
IRS Publication 463 asks for the date of each trip, the destination, the business purpose, and the miles driven, recorded at or near the time of the trip. MileWise captures those four items on every entry and keeps the gas receipt image attached as supporting evidence.
Can one account track several vehicles?
Yes. Each car has its own plate, odometer and running totals, so business use stays separated per vehicle for the standard mileage deduction.
How is the mileage deduction calculated?
Deductible miles for each purpose category are multiplied by that tax year's IRS standard mileage rate. Personal miles are excluded, and the dashboard shows the per-category math behind the estimate.
Can I export my mileage records for my accountant?
Yes. One tap exports a CSV table of every trip, or emails a formatted tax summary your accountant can use as-is.
How often should I back up my mileage log?
Export a copy on a regular schedule — weekly if you drive daily, monthly for most drivers, and at minimum each quarter and at year end. A continuous backup means your records survive a lost phone, a changed email address or a closed account, and the IRS expects records to be kept for at least three years after filing.
Does MileWise export reports automatically?
Yes. On the Export page you can turn on automatic backups and choose weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual reports. MileWise tracks when the next report is due, tells you the moment one is ready, and saves the CSV with one tap — plus you can store a delivery email to forward it to yourself or your accountant.
Your first mile is one tap away
Date, miles, destination and business purpose on every entry — exactly the four things an auditor asks for.
